After twenty years of active duty service, the Smicklas family has returned with five more members to this beautiful, fertile corner of Ohio.  Known in the area as the 1850 Homestead, this heritage property endures on eleven remaining acres of the original parcel. The main farmhouse and summer kitchen were built in 1850, and the little guest house was added in 1922 along with the old barn.  More recently, the horse barn, kennel and garage were added. We consider ourselves an urban farm because we're on one of the last larger parcels in the area and we're in close proximity to  the greater Cleveland and Akron areas.

Surrounded by beautiful Sharon Township in Medina, we've planted an apple orchard, started a large market garden, and began raising chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and pigs for ourselves and we hope eventually, for our community.  The guest house is restored and we plan to open the 1850 Homestead Farm Store as the local Annie Sloan paint stockist this March 2021.   Meanwhile, we are launching our online store to share the best paint in the world we've fallen in love with - Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan®.  We hope you'll connect with us both online and in our store when we open!
